Job Description: Child Protection Manager

Overview

The Child Protection Manager is tasked with leading initiatives to ensure the safety and well-being of children. This role involves designing, implementing, and evaluating child protection programs, advocating for children's rights, and collaborating with stakeholders such as government agencies, NGOs, and community groups. The manager ensures programs meet national and international child protection standards and effectively address issues like abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Key Responsibilities

Program Design and Development

  • Develop and implement programs addressing child abuse, trafficking, exploitation, and neglect.
  • Conduct needs assessments and tailor interventions to regional child protection challenges.
  • Align program designs with national policies, international conventions (e.g., UNCRC), and best practices.

Program Implementation and Management

  • Manage the daily operations of child protection programs, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and guidelines.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate activities to deliver timely, high-quality child protection services.
  • Engage with local authorities, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support children and families.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Establish frameworks to measure program impact and effectiveness.
  • Analyze program data and adapt strategies as needed.
  • Provide detailed progress reports to senior management, donors, and partners.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to deliver comprehensive child protection services.
  • Collaborate with schools and local groups to create safe spaces for children.
  • Serve as the organization’s liaison with donors and international stakeholders.

Advocacy and Policy Development

  • Advocate for children’s rights through policy discussions and public awareness campaigns.
  • Support child protection policy and strategy development in coordination with government and international bodies.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Conduct training sessions on child safeguarding principles for staff, partners, and communities.
  • Facilitate workshops for professionals, such as educators and law enforcement, on responding to child protection issues.
  • Strengthen the skills of child protection teams to handle cases effectively.

Case Management and Legal Support

  • Provide technical guidance on case management processes, ensuring children's best interests are prioritized.
  • Assist in identifying, referring, and monitoring cases involving abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to uphold children’s rights during legal proceedings.

Resource Management and Budgeting

  • Oversee budgeting and resource allocation for child protection programs.
  • Develop proposals and secure funding to ensure program sustainability.
  • Monitor financial activities to maintain compliance with donor requirements.

Risk Assessment and Safety Protocols

  • Prioritize child safety in all program activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to protect children.
  • Ensure staff are trained in child safeguarding and reporting protocols.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certifications in child protection or safeguarding are advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5–7 years in child protection or welfare, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Proven experience designing and evaluating child protection programs.
  • Knowledge of national and international child protection laws and standards.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of child protection frameworks, such as the UNCRC.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in monitoring, evaluation, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage sensitive cases and work under pressure.
