Job Description:

 

Child Safeguarding: 

Level 3: This role involves regular or intensive contact with children and young people, either through work within country programs or visits to such programs. Responsibilities may include implementing staff vetting processes.

 

Role Purpose:

The Child Protection Coordinator will oversee the management and coordination of a child protection project in Maidan Wardak Province, Afghanistan, aimed at supporting vulnerable children and families. The project focuses on community-based child protection and psychosocial support (PSS) interventions, addressing the protection risks faced by children in host, returnee, and nomadic Kuchi communities. The Coordinator will be responsible for effective planning, implementation, and monitoring, leading a multidisciplinary team and working with local and international partners to ensure high-quality child protection services.

 

Scope of Role:

-Reports to: Child Protection Manager, Kabul  

- Direct Reports: Child Protection Officer for Case Management and MHPSS  

 

Key Areas of Accountability:

 

Project Leadership and Management: 

- Lead planning, coordination, and implementation of the project, ensuring timely delivery.  

- Manage a team of Child Protection Officers and Case Workers.  

- Ensure activities align with donor requirements, policies, and international child protection standards.  

- Oversee operations of Child-Friendly Spaces (CFS) and coordinate Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) activities.  

- Efficiently use resources and maintain workplace safety.  

 

Strategic Planning and Program Development: 

- Develop project plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks.  

- Integrate gender equality, disability inclusion, and child safeguarding in activities.  

- Identify program expansion opportunities based on emerging needs and funding sources.  

 

Stakeholder Coordination and Partnership Development:  

- Represent the project in coordination forums and build relationships with partners.  

- Collaborate with community organizations, religious leaders, and Child Protection Action Networks (CPAN).  

- Coordinate with other sectors to ensure a multi-sectoral approach to child protection.  

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL):  

- Work with the MEAL team to monitor and evaluate project activities, including data collection and reporting.  

- Incorporate community feedback mechanisms to promote transparency and accountability.  

- Document best practices and success stories to contribute to global and national child protection knowledge.  

 

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

- Guide and mentor the child protection team, fostering a culture of learning.  

- Lead capacity-building initiatives for staff and partners.  

- Ensure adherence to child safeguarding policies.  

 

Advocacy and Awareness:

- Advocate for policy changes to improve child protection services.  

- Lead evidence-based awareness campaigns on child rights issues.  

- Collaborate with local media to raise awareness of child protection risks.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Degree in Law, Social Science, or a related field.  

- At least 5 years of experience in managing child protection projects, preferably in conflict settings.  

- Proven track record in child protection, advocacy, and community mobilization.  

- Computer proficiency and training experience.  

- Excellent communication skills in English and Dari/Pashto.  

 

Additional Job Responsibilities:

- May be required to take on additional duties during humanitarian emergencies.
