Job Purpose:

To provide primary healthcare services to drought-affected populations, including women, children, and people with disabilities, in remote areas of Badghis province, Afghanistan. The project aims to create a medium-term impact in marginalized and hard-to-reach communities by offering equitable, inclusive, and safe access to health and nutrition services for high-risk groups. This includes life-saving health and nutrition interventions for populations not covered by BPHS, and collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver integrated malnutrition treatments in communities and health facilities.

 

This full-time, grant-funded Nutrition Nurse role focuses on screening children under five and pregnant or lactating women, implementing IMAM guidelines, conducting nutrition education sessions, and following up on SAM and MAM cases, including malnourished pregnant and lactating women (PLWs).

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Screen children under five and pregnant/lactating women.

- Provide IYCF psychosocial counseling to affected PLWs.

- Conduct health education sessions on physical conditions similar to depressive disorders.

- Offer psychosocial support to malnourished women and women with malnourished children, addressing physical, mental, neurological, and substance use issues through self-help groups and stress management, considering COVID-19 conditions.

- Ensure sustainable breastfeeding counseling.

- Participate in project training sessions.

- Follow updated MoPH/nutrition cluster guidelines for adapted nutrition interventions under COVID-19 conditions.

- Maintain a comprehensive registration system for the nutrition unit (OPD SAM).

- Accurately measure and record beneficiaries' MUAC, weight, height, and length as per nutrition criteria.

- Provide nutrition counseling according to MoPH guidelines.

- Calculate and distribute RUTF/RUSF and other medical supplies (Vitamin A, Mebendazole, Ferfolic) to malnourished children, with weekly distributions for SAM cases and monthly for MAM cases.

- Follow up with malnourished children through CHWs.

- Submit IMAM reports monthly and report to World Vision.

- Record information on MNS awareness and psychosocial support sessions.

- Submit daily forms and restock supplies as needed.

- Fully implement IMAM guidelines.

- Monitor stock levels, submit consumption reports, and request supplies.

- Maintain equipment and report any issues.

- Perform other related duties.

 

Other Responsibilities:

- Adhere to World Vision’s Child and Adult Safeguarding Policy and accountability standards.

- Be prepared to implement World Vision Afghanistan’s Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs plan under the AHF project context.

 

job requirements

- Graduate of a nursing or midwifery program.

- Strong communication skills with staff and clients.

- At least one year of experience working in a nutrition program using the CMAM/IMAM approach.

- Proficiency in Dari is essential; Pashto is preferred.

- Ability to travel to targeted provinces.
