Job Description:
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The National Senior Officer, Education (Girls’ Education and Child Protection) will be responsible for the design, implementation and quality assurance of AKF’s Girls’ Education and Child Protection Program. The National Coordinator, Education (Girls’ Education and Child Protection) will also provide capacity building on girls’ education and child protection matters to AKF education staff and partners engaged in the implementation of the Girls’ Education and Child Protection activities around.
The National Senior Officer, Education (Girls’ Education and Child Protection) will report to the National Senior Advisor, Education and ECD and will work closely with the AKF Education team and local partners in Kabul and the provinces. S/he will also work closely with Country Safeguarding Manager and in accordance with AKF education focus on Multi Input Area Development will also work closely with other sectors such as Rural Development and Health. In addition, s/he is responsible to interpret written and spoken material into Dari and Pashto languages, ensure meaning and context are maintained.
S/he will be based in Kabul with regular travels to to the AKF education program areas.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Review child protection issues and gaps in current education programming.
Lead the design and development of safeguarding, child protection and girls’ education policies and processes for the Girls Education and Child Protection Project.
Coordinate with the technical and grants management team to ensure that all girls’ education and child protection activities are consistent with established international and national policies and best practices.
provide technical guidance and direction for effective planning, implementation and monitoring of agreed girls’ education and child protection activities.
Ensure child protection is adequately integrated into risk assessments and program activities at operational sites.
Develop and deliver training program and workshops for staff, partners and stakeholders on girls’ education, safeguarding and child protection.
Make field visits to regions to monitor and reports on implementation of girls’ education, safeguarding and child protection activities.
Coordinate with MERL unit to ensure that child protection and girls education are incorporated within the relevant M&E systems and ensure regular follow-up on monitoring data relevant to girls’ education and child protection to feed into on-going review of project cycle and decision-making for programming.
Ensure all staff, partners and other stakeholders are provided with updates on girls’ education and child protection polices and periodically review and revise policies.
With support from the program implementation team, ensure accountability to beneficiaries that child protection are adequately addressed.
Represent the organization in meetings with government officials and other actors, to advocate and promote child protection, and communicate with partners on child protection policies.
Participate actively in Girls’ Education and Child Protection coordination meetings and forums.
Develop girls’ education, safeguarding cases, and child protection reports and briefs and contribute to the donor report writings.
To carry out responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects AKF’s commitment to protecting children and vulnerable adults in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy and Child Safeguarding Policy.
To report any suspicions or actual violations of the Safeguarding Policy and and/or Child Safeguarding Policy as per the given training.
OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform all written and oral translations of documentation and training packages into Dari or both Dari and Pashto as requested by the Senior Management Team.
Any tasks are assigned by the immediate supervisor or senior management in the NPO.
Job Requirements:
JOB SPECIFICATION
Minimum bachelors in humanitarian affairs, education, social science, law, development studies or relevant field.
Good command of English.
Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills are very important.
Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different backgrounds.
At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in humanitarian affairs, girls’ education, human rights, child protection or other related area.
Able to work in unstable and uncertain environments, independently and in a team.
Experience in supervising and mentoring other staff.
