Job Description:

Background:

 

 

The Safeguarding Officer will report to the Provincial Coordinator/ HQ safeguarding focal point. TLO is committed to providing inclusive, safe, and high-quality and inclusive education services. As part of this commitment, safeguarding is at the core of all activities to protect children, youth, and vulnerable populations from harm, abuse, and exploitation. He/she will be responsible for promoting, implementing, and monitoring safeguarding policies and procedures in all aspects of the education project. This includes building capacity, ensuring compliance, and responding to safeguarding concerns promptly and effectively.

 

 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

 

 

 

The Safeguarding Officer will undertake the following responsibilities but not limited to;

 

Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are integrated into all project activities and operations.

Monitor adherence to safeguarding standards across the project’s implementation sites.

Provide guidance and support to staff, partners, and stakeholders on safeguarding matters.

Conduct safeguarding orientation and training sessions for staff, teachers, field teams, and community representatives.

 

Develop and adapt safeguarding training materials tailored to the local context and the needs of the project.

Identify safeguarding risks in project activities and propose mitigation strategies.

Conduct regular assessments to ensure a safe environment for project beneficiaries.

Establish clear reporting and referral mechanisms for safeguarding incidents.

Respond to safeguarding concerns and incidents in line with organizational protocols, ensuring confidentiality and survivor-centered approaches.

Maintain detailed and secure records of safeguarding cases and actions taken.

Work closely with program teams to integrate safeguarding into project design and delivery.

Represent the organization in safeguarding forums, networks, and events.

Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of safeguarding measures in the project.

Contribute to project reporting by providing updates on safeguarding activities, challenges, and progress.

Recommend improvements to safeguarding policies and practices based on lessons learned.

Any other tasks as assigned by line supervisor.

 

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Human Rights, or a related field.

A minimum of 3-5 years years of experience in safeguarding, child protection, or related areas, preferably in education projects.

Strong knowledge of safeguarding principles, frameworks, and best practices.

Experience in handling safeguarding incidents and case management.

Familiarity with education systems and challenges

Priority will be given to local residents.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Proven ability to work collaboratively with provincial team and related departments

Proficiency in local languages and English, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong organizational skills and attention to details.

Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including children, communities, and government officials.
