Job Description:
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Growth and Development Monitoring:
- Determine weight, height, age, and MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) for all children under two years and register them.
- Classify children under the categories of healthy, moderately acute malnourished, and severely acute malnourished.
- Advise mothers on IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding) practices and infection prevention.
- If the child is healthy, encourage mothers to continue current practices.
- If the child is moderately or severely malnourished, provide IYCF counseling.
- Conduct food demonstrations where feasible.
Counseling During Pregnancy and Lactation:
- Provide counseling to pregnant women on proper nutrition, including regular iron and folic acid supplementation.
- Ensure adequate intake of iron and folic acid tablets for pregnant women.
- Promote the use of iodized salt, especially during this period.
Community-Level Work:
- Collaborate with community health supervisors and volunteers to provide technical support during monthly visits for:
- Growth and development monitoring for children under two years.
- Counseling on IYCF based on community-level nutrition guidelines.
- Nutritional counseling for pregnant women, including regular supplementation.
- Disseminate at least 1–2 nutrition messages to the community monthly.
- Support and guide community health supervisors/volunteers to address family-level issues in cases of growth failure or malnutrition.
Records and Reporting:
- Maintain well-organized reports to ensure traceability and monitoring of services provided, including nutrition records for children and mothers.
- Identify beneficiaries needing follow-up and share this information with community health supervisors.
- Prepare a monthly work plan and attend daily clinic briefings and meetings.
- Register and chart children's growth and nutritional status in their health cards.
Referrals and Coordination:
- Refer malnourished children identified during screenings to the clinic doctor.
- Educate mothers about follow-up visits and emphasize the importance of subsequent checkups.
- Register children in growth monitoring records and coordinate with community supervisors for follow-up plans.
Other Responsibilities:
- Refer pregnant and lactating women with advanced illnesses or complications.
- Refer children to vaccination services.
- Provide health education based on the clinic’s monthly plan.
- Attend monthly health council meetings.
- Submit monthly activity reports.
Job Requirements:
Education and Qualifications:
- High school graduate or graduate of a religious school.
- Good interpersonal and social skills.
