Job Description:
There are eight driver positions available, one for each duty station: Kabul, Jalalabad, Gardez, Bamyan, Kunduz, Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, and Kandahar.

Reporting Structure:
The incumbent will report to the FAO Representative (FAOR) or Deputy FAO Representative (DFAOR) in Afghanistan. Direct supervision will be provided by the Head of the Logistics Unit, with overall guidance from the Head of the Operations Unit. The designated supervisor will oversee day-to-day activities, provide technical guidance, and conduct performance evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport project staff, consultants, and official visitors using armored/soft-skin vehicles as required within the duty station and across Afghanistan.
  • Assist with airport meet-and-greet services, hotel check-ins, and other local formalities.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle use, including mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance, and repairs. Report servicing and repair needs to the Admin/Finance team.
  • Conduct daily vehicle maintenance checks (oil, battery, tires, etc.), perform minor repairs, and arrange timely professional servicing.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, safe, and fully functional.
  • Adhere to local regulations and organizational protocols in case of accidents, ensuring compliance with security procedures.
  • Monitor and report road and security conditions for safe travel.
  • Handle document and cargo delivery, ensuring all transportation aligns with FAO requirements.
  • Prioritize safety, observe traffic and security regulations, and ensure vehicles are used exclusively for FAO activities.
  • Park vehicles securely at FAO premises or designated locations when not in use.
  • Plan routes in collaboration with FAO Security Units to guarantee passenger safety.
  • Equip vehicles with necessary emergency supplies, including a first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and other tools.
  • Stay updated on FAO road movement protocols and participate in team training sessions.
  • Assist with protocol-related duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with formal driver training and a valid driver’s license.
  • At least five years of safe driving experience, preferably with international organizations or the UN.
  • Proven track record of disciplined behavior and no major accidents in the past five years.
  • Working knowledge of English (level B) and local languages (Pashto and/or Dari).
  • Afghan nationality.
