Job Purpose
Reporting to the Country Representative, the consultant will collaborate closely with the Communications Specialist to develop, manage, and execute strategic communications, visibility, advocacy, and media outreach initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Communication:
- Support in drafting and editing articles, talking points, press releases, human interest stories, and other informational materials.
- Coordinate with program teams to prepare background communications and promotional content for briefings and visits from key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and special interest groups.
- Create best practices documentation and other knowledge materials, presenting them in multimedia formats for targeted outreach to key audiences.
- Organize and foster public support for events promoting Country Programme goals, enhancing visibility for UNFPA’s work in Afghanistan.
- Assist in the planning, management, and editorial review for the Country Office's reports, ensuring translations into local languages where necessary.
Coordination:
- Support programme coordination, including activities with provincial offices.
- Provide quality control and editorial support for internal and external reports.
- Collaborate with various programme teams to ensure their communications and visibility needs are met.
- Liaise with external partners and donors on communications and visibility requirements.
- Analyze media trends and monitor the political and social landscape.
Donor Relations:
- Assist the Representative and programme teams in creating materials for resource mobilization, including supporting donor meetings when needed.
- Work with the finance team to track the use of donor resources and support programme teams in reporting donor funding outcomes.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by the Country Representative.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
- Experience: Two years of professional experience in journalism, editing, communications, external relations, etc., in an international organization, foundation, NGO/CSO, private sector, or government office.
-Knowledge: Current developments in reproductive health, population and development, and gender.
-Skills: Strong research, analytical, and synthesis skills on issues related to UNFPA’s mandate; clear written and oral communication; proofreading and copy editing; social media and web content creation; effective relationship-building and networking; multicultural sensitivity.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Suite.
- Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) and knowledge of Dari and Pashto.
Delivery: All outputs to be submitted electronically in formats such as PDF, JPG, MP4. Monthly summaries of work progress are required.
