Position:

Investment Analyst – Accelerate Prosperity (AP) 

 

Objective:

Launched by the Aga Khan Development Network in 2016 as a collaboration between the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s Industrial Promotion Services (AKFED IPS), Accelerate Prosperity (AP) supports entrepreneurship and socio-economic growth. Established initially in Pakistan and Tajikistan, AP later expanded to Kyrgyzstan in 2018 and Afghanistan in 2021. AP Afghanistan is undergoing legal review to determine an appropriate operational structure. Through its programs, AP promotes business growth by providing training, technical support, mentorship, and tailored financing, focusing on startups and small, high-potential businesses (SGBs) in sectors like agribusiness, digital content, and hospitality.  

 

Role Summary:

The Investment Analyst, reporting to the Investment Manager, is responsible for managing AP’s investment portfolio in line with the organization’s policy and compliance requirements. This role requires strong oversight of investment strategies, risk management, and portfolio optimization. The analyst collaborates with stakeholders, aligning investment activities with AP’s goals and ensuring compliance with regulations and market trends.  

 

Job Responsibilities:  

 

Pipeline Development:

- Assist in outreach, marketing, selection, training, and advising to attract promising startups and SGBs suited to AP's programs.

 

Financial Modeling and Investment Readiness: 

- Develop financial models and investment memos for the national investment committees and Executive Committee (ExCom).

 

Due Diligence:

- Conduct due diligence and risk analysis for equity investments, guarantees, technical assistance, and other support mechanisms AP provides.  

 

Pitch Support:

- Aid in organizing final pitch sessions to connect top startups and SGBs with investors.

 

Investment Deployment:

- Assist the Country Director in securing internal approvals and coordinating investment-related activities. Work with legal counsel to complete documentation, ensuring timely disbursement.

 

Post-Investment Monitoring and Support:

- Oversee investee compliance with agreements and AP policies, providing post-investment training and support based on due diligence recommendations.

 

Repayment and Exits:

- Ensure timely repayment by portfolio businesses and manage exit strategies as needed, aligning with AP's Child Safeguarding Policy.

 

Additional Duties:

- Complete tasks assigned by the Investment Manager, Investment Lead, or AP Country Director as required.  

 

Requirements:

 

Qualifications:

- Strong financial and analytical background, with experience in investments, particularly within startups and SGBs.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s in accounting, economics, or relevant qualifications like ACCA, with additional certifications such as CFA or FMVA preferred.

- At least 3 years in finance or investment, preferably working with startups and SGBs.

- Demonstrated skill in risk assessment and management, particularly within the banking sector.

- Proactive work ethic with fluency in English and relevant local languages.
