CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: The role involves frequent or intensive contact with children and/or young people. This could occur regularly (e.g., once a week or more) or intensively (e.g., four or more days within a month, or during overnight stays). The contact arises from working in country programs, visiting these programs, or being responsible for implementing staff background checks and vetting processes.
**ROLE PURPOSE:**
The FSL Officer – Agronomy will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of climate-smart agricultural initiatives, with a focus on providing tools, seeds, and other inputs to enhance agricultural productivity for returnees, host communities, and nomadic (Kuchi) populations. This role also includes training farmers in advanced agricultural practices to improve food security and resilience to climate change.
**SCOPE OF ROLE:**

- **Budget Responsibilities:** None
- **Role Dimensions:** The role requires establishing strong working relationships with Save the Children's livelihood and child protection staff, as well as with returnees, nomadic (Kuchi), host communities, and other stakeholders in areas where project activities are conducted.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The primary responsibility is to support the Agriculture component of the SC-NI grant across the target provinces.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the project team with community mobilization and awareness efforts.
- Conduct beneficiary selection using proper household selection methods.
- Lead the planning and execution of climate-smart agriculture initiatives, including distributing drought-resistant seeds, tools, and agricultural inputs to farmers.
- Provide technical training to farmers on climate-smart practices, food processing, storage, handling, and marketing.
- Support the development of small and medium-scale food processing businesses, improving their market access and increasing food production and income.
- Monitor agricultural activities to ensure increased productivity and the adoption of climate-resilient practices among targeted communities.
- Collaborate with community leaders, agricultural cooperatives, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of agronomy-related interventions.
- Conduct participatory assessments and surveys to identify agricultural needs and improvement opportunities in the target communities.
- Ensure all agronomy activities integrate gender-sensitive approaches, encouraging the participation of women and youth.
- Provide regular updates and reports on the progress of agronomy activities.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL):
- Develop and implement action plans for quality monitoring.
- Engage communities by raising awareness of project goals, outputs, activities, MEAL systems, and Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policies.
- Share project and activity information during events such as training sessions and workshops.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or Agriculture.
Experience and Skills:
Essential:
- At least 3 years of experience in agronomy, climate-smart agriculture, or related livelihood programs.
- Strong knowledge of how climate change affects agriculture and expertise in sustainable farming practices.
- Experience working with rural and vulnerable populations, including returnees and pastoral communities.
- Excellent training and facilitation skills, particularly in capacity-building in rural agricultural settings.
- Strong organizational and reporting abilities.
