Position Overview:

The Communications and Media Specialist will be responsible for enhancing the visibility of Search’s projects, coordinating media activities and radio programs, supporting the creation of reports, and sharing best practices. This role also involves maintaining relationships with media partners for the Search Afghanistan contract.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance in studies on radio reach and impact across Afghanistan.
  • Work with radio stations to plan and oversee capacity-building initiatives.
  • Supervise radio programming, including roundtables, dramas, and features.
  • Offer guidance to local partners and radio stations on behavior change messaging.
  • Participate in project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Create content for media outreach in both English and local languages (Dari and Pashto).
  • Manage the organization’s social media accounts.
  • Write press releases and other media content in English and local languages.
  • Build and maintain connections with local media outlets.
  • Identify opportunities to highlight the project’s impact in various media channels (local, national, international).
  • Connect the project with other media-focused social change initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of media-centered projects in Afghanistan.
  • Support the program department in designing visibility materials such as brochures, pamphlets, and advocacy kits.
  • Lead branding and promotion of radio programs via social media.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating issue-specific roundtables with stakeholders on behalf of Search Afghanistan.
  • Collaborate with other departments to design an annual projection report as a media product for Search Afghanistan.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Safeguarding:

Stay vigilant to child safeguarding risks, acquire necessary skills to promote safeguarding practices, and follow Search’s child safeguarding policy. Conduct yourself in alignment with these guidelines.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably) in mass communication, media, journalism, or relevant social sciences from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in media and communications, preferably in a credible local or international organization in Afghanistan.
  • Experience leading media programs (especially radio) aimed at social change.
  • Proven experience managing social media for an NGO.
  • Skilled in designing print media materials for official purposes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fluent in spoken and written Dari/Farsi, Pashto, and English.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Afghan media (social, print, and electronic), particularly radio.
  • Excellent networking and coordination skills.
  • Strong team-building abilities.
  • Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and respond to urgent tasks.
