Job Purpose:

To provide essential healthcare services to populations affected by drought, including women, children, and people with disabilities in remote areas of Badghis province, Afghanistan. This project aims to create medium-term improvements in marginalized and hard-to-reach communities by ensuring equitable, inclusive, and safe access to health and nutrition services for high-risk groups. It involves delivering life-saving health and nutrition services to populations not covered by BPHS and working with various stakeholders to provide integrated malnutrition treatments in both communities and health facilities.

 

The nurse is responsible for the proper handling, usage, and transport of pharmaceuticals, ensuring that medications are dispensed according to prescriptions, and maintaining them properly in the clinic, as outlined below.

 

Key Responsibilities:

- Submit monthly drug orders in consultation with the MD doctor to prevent shortages in health facilities.

- Store drugs according to protocol to ensure their condition is maintained.

- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency care to patients in critical condition.

- Organize pharmacy drugs alphabetically and follow FIFO or FEFO procedures.

- Dispense drugs to patients based on prescriptions, record them in the pharmacy book, maintain stock reports daily, and conduct a physical inventory at least once a month.

- Package each drug in a labeled bag with details on the name, dosage, and usage instructions. Store all prescriptions in the health facilities at the end of the month.

- Educate patients on proper drug usage and storage.

- Place monthly drug orders and inform the pharmacy team and facility director in advance to prevent shortages.

- Submit monthly consumption reports to the pharmacy coordinator and provide feedback to the health facility director.

- Verify all supplied drugs and items before signing the receipt from the pharmacy team during each supply.

- Regularly update the pharmacy’s emergency box according to the approved list.

- Report soon-to-expire drugs to the health facility director, and if quantities exceed consumption rates, return the drugs to the stock three months before expiry.

- Follow WVI protocols and policies.

- Submit monthly reports and drug/equipment orders.

- Attend training sessions and meetings as requested.

- Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

 

Job Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

- Nursing program graduate.

- Two years of relevant work experience.

- Proficiency in Dari or Pashto.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

- Willingness and ability to travel by road.

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

- Strong communication skills.

- Fluency in both Dari and Pashto.

- Capacity-building and facilitation skills.

- Ability to work effectively in a team.

- Knowledge of child rights.
