Job Description:

The Agronomist Officer will play a key technical role in the implementation of the agriculture section of Resilience Food System “RFS” Project in Badakhshan Province. The position will provide agricultural expertise, technical support, and field-based guidance to ensure effective distribution and utilization of agricultural inputs, including certified seeds, greenhouses, kitchen gardening, vermicompost, gardening, solar drier system etc. The Agronomist Officer will be responsible for delivering practical training to beneficiaries on improved cultivation practices, crop management, and sustainable agricultural techniques, with the overall aim of improving food security, enhancing household resilience, and increasing productivity among vulnerable farming communities. Provide technical agronomic support to ensure effective crop production, adoption of improved seeds and fertilizers, and integration of climate-smart agricultural practices among project beneficiaries.

Job Requirements:

Provide technical guidance on summer and winter vegetable crop agro-technics, including soil preparation, seed handling, and cultivation, irrigation, and pest/disease management.

Facilitate training and demonstrations on pre-harvest and post-harvest practices to improve crop productivity and quality.

Support climate-resilient approaches such as integrated pest management, agroforestry, composting, and bio-fertilizer use.

Conduct field monitoring, provide on-site advice to farmers, and ensure proper adoption of improved practices.

Prepare technical plans, report, and maintain accurate records of training and field activities in line with project objectives.

Provide technical agronomic support to ensure effective crop production, adoption of improved seeds and fertilizers, and integration of climate-smart agricultural practices among project beneficiaries.

Provide technical guidance on seeds planting and summer crop cultivation practices.

Support land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest/disease control.

Conduct field demonstrations and Farmer Field Schools (FFS).

Promote climate-smart and improved agricultural practices.

Ensure effective use of distributed agricultural inputs by farmers.

Facilitate awareness sessions on crop diversification and soil fertility.

Provide tailored advice to smallholder farmers, women, and vulnerable groups.

Train community mobilizers, facilitators and farmer groups to strengthen local capacity.

Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop progress and provide solutions.

Collect field data on seed usage, crop performance, and yields.

Establish and monitor demonstration plots for improved technologies.

Coordinate closely with Project Manager, RFS staffs, and local authorities.

Liaise with extension agents, input suppliers, and other stakeholders.

Prepare and submit regular technical and field progress reports.

Document beneficiary feedback, lessons learned, and success stories.

Contribute agricultural analysis to the final project report.

Ensure compliance with environmental, safeguarding, and gender policies.

Promote women’s participation and gender inclusivity in project activities.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Project Manager in line with project objectives and organizational policies.

Qualification/Requirements:

 

Minimum 6 years relevant work experience in the field of Agriculture with NGOs, INGOs or UN agencies.

At least 7 years’ have General experience working with non-profit organizations (NGOs)’s with international NGO experience preferred.

Computer skills at the operator level, especially with MS Office packages.

Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken.

Ability or experience in the field of community driven development projects monitoring

High attention to detail, effective time management skills, strong work ethic, a willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to be a self-starter.

Having strong report writing skills.

Experience in planning, reporting and budgeting.

Good communication skill and able to pass the massage/questions in local languages to the respondents.

Have good interpersonal skills and ability to plan work.

Supervisory, team worker, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

Regional and cultural knowledge of areas of SFL field operations in Afghanistan

Willingness to work long hours when required

Ability and willingness to travel to the project sites and outside of duty station within Afghanistan and adjust to the SFL environment as frequently as required

Honest, proactive, well mannered, and must share values of SFL.

Willing to stay in field locations.

Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment.
