Job Description:

Objective

 

To implement the climate change project based on its initial design, the agreed time frame, and key deliverables in close coordination with stakeholders, AWEC’s senior management, and donor requirements. Support AWEC’s senior management in new initiatives to extend and expand AWEC’s services to the most vulnerable people in the country.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

The Project Manager - Climate Change Initiatives will lead our organization’s efforts to address climate change through project-designed activities, and new initiatives. This includes developing and managing initiatives aimed at mitigation, adaptation, and advocacy in response to global and local environmental challenges.

The Project Manager will work across multiple sectors and coordinate with stakeholders to ensure effective project execution.

To manage and oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of climate change projects, ensuring they meet objectives on time and within budget.

The Project Manager will also innovate and develop new project ideas that align with both organizational goals and current climate change research.

Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, execution, and closure.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, community leaders, and international partners to enhance project outcomes.

Financial Oversight: Develop project budgets and monitor financial performance. Ensure efficient use of resources and financial compliance.

Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and lead project teams, fostering a collaborative work environment.

Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate reporting on project progress and challenges, both internally and externally as required.

Advocacy and Awareness: Raise awareness and advocate for urgent action on climate change. Engage with media, participate in conferences, and lead public engagement initiatives.

Capacity Building: Develop and facilitate workshops and training sessions to build the climate change understanding and capabilities of team members and stakeholders.

Research and Development: Stay informed on the latest climate change research and integrate innovative strategies and technologies into project planning.

Perform any other duties as required.

 

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

 

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainability, or a related field.

Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in project management, specifically in climate change or environmental projects.

Proven ability to manage large-scale projects and budgets.

Strong leadership skills and experience managing multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in the use of project management software.

Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the project’s geographic location.

Previous experience in policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement at the national or international level.
