Job Description

Job Summary:

The on-call surgeon is responsible for conducting emergency and critical surgeries for patients in urgent need of care. The surgeon must respond quickly to emergency calls, providing timely medical interventions and ensuring patient care is delivered in compliance with hospital protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide care for critical and emergency patients when required.
  • Respond to hospital calls within 15-30 minutes, ensuring continuous 24/7 coverage.
  • Record all on-call activities, procedures performed, and patient care details.
  • Take patient histories and complete the necessary documentation for admitted patients.
  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations based on patient needs.
  • Advise and interpret laboratory and radiology exams according to patient requirements and established guidelines.
  • Conduct regular patient visits as needed.
  • Make accurate diagnoses considering patient history, physical exams, and lab results.
  • Advise on and manage treatment for admitted patients in line with their diagnoses and needs.
  • Ensure the proper application of emergency care procedures.
  • Provide post-operative counseling and manage follow-up care for critically ill patients.
  • Assist with data collection using designated methods and tools.
  • Adhere to standards, protocols, and procedures in daily tasks.
  • Focus on personal development and participate in assigned training sessions.
  • Contribute to action planning for standard implementation and attend quarterly reviews of CRHC standards.
  • Offer preventive and preliminary counseling to patients and clients.
  • Actively support infection prevention efforts in the emergency unit and hospital.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Medical degree from an accredited university.
  • Specialization in General Surgery, attested by MoPH.
  • 3-5 years of surgical experience in a recognized hospital.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Experience managing complex surgical cases and handling emergencies, with the ability to work 24/7 to ensure patient care.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Professional and compassionate interaction with patients, clients, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Pashto, Dari, and English (both written and spoken).
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office).
