Job Summary:
The gynecology/obstetrics specialist is responsible for performing critical and emergency surgeries, addressing urgent gynecological and obstetrical emergencies, and providing high-quality care in line with MOPH/EPHS standards. This specialist will work closely with the medical team to manage complex cases, ensure accurate patient documentation, and contribute to the training and capacity development of staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond quickly to urgent gynecological or obstetrical emergencies, such as severe bleeding, preterm labor, or other complications.
- Assess whether immediate hospitalization or surgical intervention is necessary.
- Ensure readiness to respond to emergency calls and arrive at the hospital promptly.
- Provide quality gynecological and obstetrical care according to MoPH/EPHS standards, including initial assessments, stabilization, and necessary treatments.
- Monitor high-risk and complicated obstetrics and gynecology cases.
- Perform lifesaving procedures, including maternal resuscitation and CPR.
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols in all procedures.
- Ensure complete and accurate patient documentation.
- Maintain hygiene, infection prevention, and safe disposal of waste and sharps in the ward.
- Ensure correct diagnoses and treatment plans for gynecological and obstetrical patients, and oversee prescription accuracy.
- Guarantee that doctors follow appropriate diagnostic steps, including history taking, examinations, investigations, and health education.
- Ensure proper handling and filing of patient records by doctors and nurses.
- Organize technical seminars and on-the-job training to enhance staff skills.
- Participate in gynecology/obstetrics consultations and be available for secondary calls when needed.
- Ensure timely referrals, investigate patient deaths, and provide technical reports regarding the causes.
- Ensure the availability and proper functioning of patient files, emergency supplies, and equipment in compliance with HMIS standards.
- Implement HMIS and hospital standards according to EPHS guidelines.
- Be accessible for calls during on-call hours from healthcare providers, emergency departments, or patients.
- Perform any other relevant tasks as assigned by AFGA or management.
Job Requirements:
- MD degree with specialization in gynecology/obstetrics approved by MOPH.
- Proficiency in performing common gynecological and obstetric procedures, including caesarean sections and hysterectomies.
- Certification in ultrasound and strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Availability for 24/7 on-call coverage and ability to respond swiftly to emergencies.
- 2-5 years of experience as a gynecology/obstetrics specialist in a hospital setting.
- Fluent in Pashto, Dari, and proficient in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
