Job Summary:

The Economic Development and Food Security (EDFS) Coordinator will collaborate with partners and stakeholders to design and implement food security programs aimed at strengthening community resilience through market-based initiatives. The role emphasizes sustainable outcomes in agronomy, climate-smart agriculture, and green economy investments. The Coordinator will support private-sector engagement and lead innovative economic projects that enhance agricultural productivity and create economic opportunities. Responsibilities also include monitoring, learning, and reporting to ensure program effectiveness.

The position involves close collaboration with community members, local authorities, partner organizations, and stakeholders to guarantee sustainable and impactful interventions. The Coordinator will manage a diverse team, providing technical expertise in livelihoods, agriculture, horticulture, and income-generating activities, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The aim is to align programs with food security and economic development goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Design and Implementation:

  • Develop and manage food security and economic development programs in line with NCA strategies.
  • Identify key intervention areas to enhance community resilience through agriculture, market linkages, and livelihoods.
  • Build and maintain donor relationships to foster long-term partnerships.
  • Lead the design of concept notes, proposals, and budgets, incorporating innovative approaches in coordination with program leadership.

2. Technical Leadership:

  • Provide guidance on climate-smart agriculture, small business development, and value chain enhancement.
  • Support economic development initiatives, facilitating access to financial services, training, and market opportunities.
  • Develop tools to assess the impact of weather, pests, and diseases on crops and livestock, providing effective solutions.
  • Advise farmers' groups on best agricultural practices and collaboration with private sector investors.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Set up and monitor demonstration sites showcasing the success of climate-smart agriculture and micro-investments.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans to track project progress.
  • Prepare timely reports for donors, stakeholders, and NCA leadership.
  • Document lessons learned and adjust program strategies based on data.

4. Capacity Building:

  • Train farmers' groups, partners, and staff on food security and economic resilience.
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops to build local capacity.

5. Partnership and Coordination:

  • Build strategic partnerships with local NGOs, community groups, government bodies, and private sector actors.
  • Represent NCA in coordination meetings and advocate for community needs.
  • Integrate food security activities with health, nutrition, WASH, and climate programs for maximum impact.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agriculture, Development Studies, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in economic development, agriculture, or livelihoods, preferably with a UN agency or international NGO.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in market-based economic development, climate-smart agriculture, and resilience approaches.
    • Proven track record in food security project implementation.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Familiarity with multi-sectoral programming, agribusiness, and climate-smart agricultural practices.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and proposal writing tools.
    • Fluency in English; knowledge of Dari and Pashto is highly desirable.
    • Strong time management, strategic planning, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and travel to field locations.
