Job Description
Purpose of the Role:
- Assist in the implementation of Polio Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs) across provinces.
- Provide support to Routine Immunization efforts in various provinces.
Program Objectives:
- Prevent the spread of Wild Poliovirus (WPV) by achieving high levels of community immunity.
- Establish a robust AFP (Acute Flaccid Paralysis) surveillance system to detect cases promptly.
- Enhance the quality of Routine Immunization services through PEI support for EPI strategies.
- Strengthen collaboration among partners in the region.
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to the WHO Polio Team Leader/Medical Officer and under the overall supervision of the WHO Representative, the Central PEI Officer will:
1. Support the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in planning, supervising, and monitoring SIAs nationwide.
2. Conduct monthly program reviews and assist in developing action plans for Regional Polio Officers.
3. Regularly visit field sites to monitor PEI activities, including the performance of Permanent Polio Teams and other targeted initiatives.
4. Collect, analyze, and review data from campaigns and post-campaign assessments and present findings at various levels.
5. Coordinate with PEI partners and provide data-driven recommendations for solution-oriented actions to MoPH.
6. Submit regular pre- and post-SIA reports to MoPH and work closely with health and social sector partners.
7. Track the progress of SIAs, AFP surveillance, and routine immunization in districts and provide timely feedback.
8. Oversee and facilitate training and capacity-building initiatives for national staff.
9. Strengthen routine EPI activities in collaboration with MoPH at all levels.
10. Assist the Team Leader/Deputy Team Leaders with additional tasks and submit monthly plans and mission reports.
Qualifications:
- At least 8 years of experience in PEI programs or equivalent roles.
- Medical degree (essential); a Master’s in Public Health is preferred.
- Results-driven with proven leadership, negotiation, and team management skills.
- Expertise in presenting technical information, reporting, and coordinating PEI activities.
- Proficient in English and local languages.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Office (2010 or later) and IT applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively in diverse cultural settings while upholding high professional standards.
- Willingness to undertake field visits and work extended hours, including weekends, when necessary.

Educational Requirements:
- Essential: Medical degree (MD/Bachelor of Medicine).
-Desirable: Master’s in Public Health or a related discipline.
Experience Requirements:
- Essential: Over 8 years of experience in Polio and Routine Immunization programs.
- Desirable: Experience working with UN or NGO systems.
Language and IT Skills:
- Proficient in English and fluent in local languages.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet navigation.
