Job Description
Purpose of the Position:
- Support the implementation of Polio Supplementary Immunization Activities (SIAs) in the provinces.
- Enhance Routine Immunization efforts in the province.
Program Objectives:
- Prevent the circulation of Wild Poliovirus (WPV) by achieving high community immunity levels.
- Establish a sensitive Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance system to detect any cases.
- Improve Routine Immunization quality through PEI support to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) strategy.
- Strengthen coordination among partners in the area.
Job Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the WHO Polio Team Leader/Medical Officer and overall guidance of the WHO Representative, the Senior Central PEI Officer will:
1. Assist the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in planning, supervising, and monitoring SIAs nationwide.
2. Conduct regular field visits to monitor PEI activities, including the performance of Permanent Polio Teams and other targeted interventions.
3. Collect, review, and analyze campaign data and present findings at various levels.
4. Coordinate with PEI partners, providing evidence-based feedback for actionable solutions.
5. Prepare reports for the MoPH before and after each SIA and collaborate closely with health and social sector partners.
6. Monitor progress in SIAs, AFP surveillance, and EPI routine immunization across districts, offering timely recommendations.
7. Oversee and support training and capacity-building initiatives for national staff.
8. Participate in internal reviews and evaluations.
9. Represent the organization at national and international conferences and meetings.
10. Support MoPH in strengthening routine EPI activities at all levels.
11. Assist the Team Leader/Deputy Team Leader with additional tasks and submit a monthly activity plan and mission report.
Qualifications:
- Over 10 years of experience in PEI programs or similar roles.
- Medical degree (essential); a Master's in Public Health is desirable.
- Proven results-oriented approach within the PEI program context.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and team management skills.
- Ability to present technical information effectively and write detailed reports.
- Proficiency in English and local languages.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Office (2010 or later).
- Ability to work in diverse cultural and educational settings while maintaining high standards of conduct.
- Willingness to conduct field visits and work extended hours, including weekends, if required.

Education:
- Essential: Medical degree (MD/Bachelor of Medicine).
- Desirable: Master’s degree in Public Health or related field.

- Essential: Over 10 years in Polio or Routine Immunization programs.
- Desirable: Experience in the UN or NGO system.
Languages:
- Strong proficiency in English and fluency in local languages.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Internet navigation skills.
