UNAMA is a special political mission tasked with providing political support and assistance in Afghanistan. It collaborates with and supports the Afghan people, facilitates peace and reconciliation efforts, monitors and advocates for human rights and the protection of civilians during conflict, promotes good governance, and fosters regional cooperation. The mission was established in March 2002 by UN Security Council Resolution 1401, following a request from the Government of Afghanistan.
