About Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI)

PU-AMI (globally known as Première Urgence Internationale, PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious international aid organization. The teams of PU-AMI are committed to supporting vulnerable communities and populations, including those affected by conflicts, natural disasters, or economic downturns. The main objective of PU-AMI is to help reduce mortality rates, provide emergency assistance to restore the dignity of those in urgent need.

The Afghan mission is the oldest PUI mission, starting with the first medical intervention in 1979, just after Soviet troops crossed the country's borders. Currently, PU-AMI teams deliver integrated healthcare services combined with nutrition, psychosocial support; water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); and trauma services. The organization mainly implements projects in the eastern parts of the country and increasingly in the southeastern regions. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, PU-AMI has established itself as one of the main actors in preparedness and response to the pandemic, carrying out health and WASH-centered activities at health facilities and community levels in Kabul and beyond.

Globally, PUI provides assistance to around 6 million people across 23 countries and 5 continents: Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe.
