Job Description:
Staff Coordination
Foster open, professional relationships with team members, encouraging a strong team spirit and providing guidance to ensure staff successfully perform their roles.
Offer nutrition support and mentorship to mobile clinic staff, providing on-the-job training when necessary.
Ensure confidentiality of all information regarding IRC activities, only sharing details in the course of regular duties and with proper authorization.
Consistently monitor and assess team safety and security, reporting any concerns to IRC management and engaging with community leaders and external parties to maintain or enhance security for IRC programs.
Main Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Provide Treatment Services for Acutely Malnourished Children Under 5 and Pregnant/Lactating Women (PLW)
- Screen and promote services to all children under 5 visiting health facilities or MNT services.
- Classify children into well-nourished or acutely malnourished (SAM & MAM) categories.
- Enroll all acutely malnourished children in OPD SAM/MAM programs and provide nutritional treatment based on IMAM protocols.
- Take histories and perform physical/medical exams, including assessing childhood illnesses, during admission and follow-up visits.
- Conduct appetite tests for each patient to determine treatment or referral needs.
- Perform anthropometric measurements during follow-up visits and ensure proper nutritional follow-up.
- Prescribe routine medications according to the approved treatment protocol.
- Identify patients who don't respond to treatment and manage follow-up care.
- Refer severely acutely malnourished patients with complications to higher health centers.
- Ensure all discharge procedures are completed, including anthropometric measurements, treatment, and health education.
- Provide caregivers with health and nutrition education, covering topics such as breastfeeding, complementary feeding, hygiene, and care for pregnant/lactating women.
Objective 2: Prepare Reporting Tools and Documentation
- Ensure all necessary materials (equipment, supplies, registers, medicines) are ready before leaving the office.
- Maintain and clean items after field visits, preparing them for the next day.
- Update reporting tools daily and maintain an organized filing system for documents.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports using standard tools.
- Assist the supervisor with additional duties as assigned.
Objective 3: Support IYCF Counseling
- Promote breastfeeding by delivering key 1000 days of life messages to mothers and caregivers.
- Provide IYCF messages during growth monitoring and promotion (GMP) for children under 2 years.
- Organize group sessions to discuss key messages on the 1000 days of life for caregivers.
- Refer patients to appropriate services when needed.
- Support nutrition and health education sessions for clients and maintain accurate records.
Job Requirements:
Education: Graduate medical nurse from a recognized institution.
Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in health and nutrition fields (e.g., OPD, TFU, pediatric units).
Skills:
- Experience in health nutrition activities.
- Strong organizational, planning, and reporting skills.
- Ability to manage working conditions in accordance with local culture.
- High flexibility in deployment, possibly with a Mahram.
- Knowledge of the intervention area is beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across units to achieve shared goals.
- Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to be innovative, flexible, and adaptive, with willingness to work outside regular hours, including overnight.
- Capable of working in challenging conditions and high-pressure environments.
- Ability to lead and mentor nursing staff and community health workers.
Technical Competency:
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in Pashto, Dari, and English.
- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Internet) are an advantage.
- Ability to work professionally with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
