Job Description:

Clinical Specialists/Mentors will be assigned to different nahias/clusters, working closely with the team to provide ongoing mentorship and support, ensuring the successful implementation and integration of project activities. They will be responsible for on-site mentoring and enhancing the quality of care at selected Tertiary, Secondary, and Primary Health Centers within each Nahia, aiming to strengthen health service delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide continuous support and advocacy for mentorship.
  • Collaborate with hospital and facility management (both public and private) to gain support for on-site mentoring and quality improvement.
  • Offer technical assistance to EPI (Expanded Program on Immunization) interventions at both health facility and community levels.
  • Assist in improving EPI coverage in targeted Health Facilities (HFs) and surrounding communities.
  • Support National Immunization Days and routine vaccination services, including outreach programs.
  • Facilitate EPI training for targeted HFs and communities.
  • Help establish quality improvement teams at health facilities and assist in selecting on-site clinical representatives for the mentorship program.
  • Conduct assessments and create action plans to enhance service delivery and data strengthening for EPI.
  • Develop a detailed mentoring schedule for routine visits to each facility, including follow-up on service delivery improvements, learning activities, and data review.
  • Support preparation for learning sessions (e.g., training materials, models, commodities, learning tools).
  • Facilitate monthly mentoring visits focused on quality improvement, learning, and data strengthening.
  • Model respectful care practices and provide clinical care services.
  • Collaborate with on-site clinical teams for the planning of on-site practices for the mentorship program.
  • Coordinate mobile phone-based mentoring and support skill practice.
  • Help facility teams analyze and discuss data, ensuring timely monthly submissions.
  • Maintain organized records of activities, including mentoring plans, implementation progress, and visits.
  • Share records with relevant stakeholders and supervisors as needed.
  • Work closely with MNH (Maternal and Newborn Health) and TB mentors to improve health service access and quality in targeted Nahias/Clusters.
  • Write and submit timely reports detailing key issues, successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with other project activities, including community engagement, leadership, and governance.
  • Collaborate with clinical advisors for MNH, nutrition, EPI, and TB interventions.
  • Provide regular feedback on planned activities and emerging issues (e.g., daily or weekly updates).
  • Participate in routine progress reviews and data presentations, adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Medical degree (MD) with at least 5 years of clinical experience, including in EPI, maternal and newborn health, family planning, nutrition, and child health.
  • Prior experience conducting competency-based training and providing supportive supervision is preferred.

Abilities/Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively in diverse teams within complex environments, managing multiple tasks, short deadlines, and high-pressure situations.
  • Strong facilitation, team-building, and coordination skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in Dari, Pashtu, and English (preferred).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) is advantageous.
