The Afghan National Oil and Gas Company was initially established in 1951 as a state monopoly for the management and oversight of activities related to the oil sector. The legal status of the company changed several times over the years in response to the evolving demands of the time. Ultimately, in 2020, the legal status of the company was transformed from a government agency into a corporation. The Afghan National Oil and Gas Company is engaged in procurement, sales, storage, and monitoring of the quantity, quality, and price of oil and gas, as well as providing services to the private sector.
